About the area and the Hotels Near Dorney Park

Dorney Park is a theme park present in Allentown, PA, owned by Cedar Fair. The park was initially opened in 1884 as a trout hatchery and summer resort. The park launches seven roller coasters, other adult and children’s rides, and the Wildwater Kingdom waterpark. It features some of the world’s most famous roller coasters, including Steel Force, the tenth longest steel roller coaster globally and the second-longest on the U.S. East Coast. Guests can enjoy over 100 rides, shows, and attractions, including eight roller coasters, the most extensive collection of kids’ rides in Planet Snoopy™, and one of the country’s best-ranked water parks.

It all started in 1860 when Solomon Dorney built a trout hatchery and summer resort outside Allentown. In 1870, Dorney chose to convert the estate into a public entertainment spot. Initially, the facility featured sports, playground-style rides, food stands, picnic groves, a hotel, and an eatery. By the 1880s, Dorney had combined a small zoo and gardens. Many of the parks and greens didn’t get directly open to attract people from the world, but Dorney park is the case that is opened to attract and amuse people and today.

When the “Dorney Park” project succeeded, Solomon Dorney then decided to do what no other fish hatchery had done previously: build a roller coaster. The Coaster is the exhilarating wooden ride with a breathtaking yet straightforward out-and-back design through the natural terrain driving parallel to the various streams that fed Lake Dorney. Constructed by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company in 1923, the Coaster became the first entertainment at Dorney Park and one of the ever first coasters in Pennsylvania.

The Wildwater Kingdom, located on the park grounds, is one of the largest water parks within an amusement park in the country, with over a dozen water rides and pools. It opened in 1985. It has become a significant summer attraction and is especially popular with residents from the local Lehigh Valley and Allentown’s two most significant cities, New York City and Philadelphia. It is incorporated with admission to Dorney Park. The Wildwater Kingdom has 22 water slides, three aquatic playlands for kids, a water funhouse, two tubing rivers, two wave ponds, and other water rides. In the 2006 season, Wildwater Kingdom introduced an extra wave pool to accommodate the immense demand of the park’s existing wave pool. The season pass lot was eliminated, and now season pass holders must park in the usual lot at no additional cost.

Today, Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom is the best example of an American amusement park. With more than 100 working rides and attractions spread throughout 200 acres and eight coasters, Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom is indeed an attractive destination for thrill-seekers and families alike.

Current roller-costers:

Hydra the revenge: The Coaster is named in honor of the wooden Coaster it replaced, Hercules.

Possessed: It was initially named Voodoo, but then they renamed it due to a lawsuit from Six Flags, who owns the name Voodoo. The ride goes across the track five times in one ride.

Steel force: at Dorney park, it is a morgan hyper roller coaster.

Talon: This trail is formed by filling the tracks with sand and gravel to reduce noise levels; thus, it is a silent roller-coster than the other.

Thumderhawk: is ancient and a perfect example of an old-fashioned American roller coaster, with thrilling out-of-seat airtime, pops.

Wildmouse: The Coaster features speed, sharp turns, steep drops, and small cars. The cars are in the shape of mice who are running around the ride.
